Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), is inviting eligible candidates  for  a total 56 posts of Chemist and Scientist ‘B’ (Hydrogeology/ Chemical/ Geophysics) under the Geological Survey of India, Ministry of Mines and Central Ground Water Board, and Ministry of Water Resources.. The exam is called Combined Geo-Scientist Examination- 2024. (i) For Geologist Group ‘A’ in Geological Survey of India
Master’s degree in Geological Science or Geology or Applied Geology or Geo- Exploration or Mineral Exploration or Engineering Geology or Marine Geology or Earth Science and Resource Management or Oceanography and Coastal Areas Studies or Petroleum Geosciences or Geochemistry.
(ii) For Geophysicist Group ‘A’ in Geological Survey of India and Scientist ‘B’ (Geophysics) M.Sc. in Physics or Applied Physics or M.Sc. (Geophysics) or Integrated M.Sc. (Exploration Geophysics).
(iii) For Chemist Group ‘A’ in Geological Survey of India and Scientist ‘B’ (Chemical) under C.G.W.B. M. Sc. in Chemistry or Applied Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry.
(iv) For Scientist ‘B’ (Hydrogeology) Group ‘A’ in C.G.W.B. Master’s degree in Geology or applied Geology or Marine Geology or Hydrogeology.
 

Age limit_UPSC Exam_UPSC Geo Scientist_Recruitment(2023

 A candidate for this examination must have attained the age criteria as prescribed below:-
(a) For Geologist, Geophysicist and Chemist (Group ‘A’) in the Geological Survey of India, an attached office of Ministry of Mines, Government of India: A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years on the first day of the month of January of the year in which the Examination is to be held (i.e. as on 1st January, 2024] i.e. he/she must have been born not earlier than 2nd January, 1992 and not later than 1st January 2003.
(b) For Scientist ‘B’(Hydrogeology) Group ‘A’, Scientist ‘B’(Chemical) Group ‘A’ and Scientist ‘B’(Geophysics) Group ‘A’ in Central Ground water Board, Ministry of Water Resources : –
Must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained at the age of 32 years on 1st January, 2024 i.e. he/she must have been born not earlier than 2nd January 1992 and not later than 1st January 2003.
NB: Candidates should ensure that they meet the age eligibility criteria for each post mentioned above for which they are applying.
 
 
Salary_UPSC Exam_UPSC Geo Scientist_Recruitment(2023
According to the 7th Pay Commission, a UPSC Combined Geoscientist officer in the entry-level Scientist ‘B’ rank will earn Rs. 56,100 per month in pay. The salary ranges from Rs. 56,100 to Rs. 1,77,500.

Candidates (excepting Female/SC/ST/Persons with Benchmark Disability Candidates who are exempted from payment of fee) are required to pay fee of Rs. 200/- (Rupees Two Hundred only), along with the submission of On-line Application Form.
 
 
Selection Process_UPSC Exam_UPSC Geo Scientist_Recruitment(2023
 
The Combined Geo-Scientist Examination will consist of three successive stages (vide Appendix I Section-I below):-
Stage-I : Combined Geo-Scientist (Preliminary) Examination (Objective type) having two papers for selection of the candidates for the Combined Geo-Scientist (Main) Examination. Marks secured in the Preliminary Examination will be counted for deciding the final merit;
Stage-II : Combined Geo-Scientist (Main) Examination (Descriptive Type) having three papers for selection of candidates for the Personality Test (Stage-III). Marks secured in the Main Examination will be counted for deciding the final merit; and
Stage-III: Personality Test/Interview Applications are now invited for the Preliminary Examination only. Candidates who will be declared by the Commission to have qualified in the Preliminary Examination will be allowed to take the Combined GeoScientist (Main) Examination. The Main Examination will be held on 22nd June, 2024. The Main
Examination will be held on the following Centres :
Bhopal, Chennai, Delhi, Dispur (Guwahati), Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai and Shimla.

Application Process_UPSC Exam_UPSC Geo Scientist_Recruitment(2023

Only online applications through the website https://upsconline.nic.in are accepted from candidates. Prior to filling out the online application for the exam, the candidate must first register on the One Time Registration (OTR) platform, which is accessible through the Commission’s website. OTR just needs to register once in their lifetime. You can do this at any time of the year. If a candidate is already registered, filling out the online application for the exam can be done right away.
 
After registering at the OTR platform, the candidate may only update one aspect of his or her OTR profile once in their lifetime. The modification of OTR profile information may be made up to seven days following the close of the application period for the applicant’s initial, complete application for any Commission examination. The final day for changing an OTR in the scenario where a candidate applies for this test for the first time after registering for one is October 17, 2023.
 
The eligible candidates shall be issued an e-Admission Certificate three weeks before the commencement of the Examination. The e-Admission Certificate will be made available in the UPSC website [https://upsconline.nic.in] for downloading by candidates. No Admission Certificate will be sent by post. All the applicants are required to provide valid active E-Mail I.D. while filling up Online Application Form as the Commission may use electronic mode for contacting them at different stages of examination process.
