The Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) have released the Centralised Employment Notice (CEN 05/2025) inviting applications for Junior Engineer (JE), Depot Material Superintendent (DMS), and Chemical Metallurgical Assistant (CMA) posts across various RRBs in India.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must fulfill the following criteria for the RRB Junior Engineer Recruitment:

• Nationality: Indian citizen or eligible migrant such as those from Nepal, Bhutan, or Tibetan refugees settled prior to 1962. Eligibility certificate from the Government of India is required for some categories.
• Age Limit: Applicants must be between 18 to 33 years as of January 1, 2026. Age relaxation is provided for reserved categories. For example, SC/ST get 5 years, OBC (NCL) get 3 years relaxation.
• Educational Qualification: For Junior Engineer posts, a three-year diploma or a higher qualification like B.E./B.Tech in Engineering (in relevant discipline) is required. Specific disciplines include Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Civil, Production, Automobile, and others based on the post.
• Medical Standards: Candidates must meet the visual acuity and fitness criteria as per Indian Railway Medical standards A-3, B-1, or C-1, depending on the post.
• Physical Disability & Reservation: Eligible candidates with benchmark disabilities can avail of reservation and scribe assistance as notified. Detailed conditions apply for the selection and use of scribe.

The 2025 notification announces a grand total of 2,569 vacancies across all RRBs for JE, DMS, and CMA posts. Selection Process

The recruitment process for RRB Junior Engineer comprises several stringent steps:

• Online Application: Candidates must create an account and submit applications exclusively via the official RRB websites. No changes in account details or selected RRB are possible after submission
• Computer Based Test (CBT): Multi-stage CBT is mandatory, conducted in English, Hindi, and 13 regional languages. Negative marking applies, with 1/3rd marks deducted for each wrong answer. Marks are normalized for merit ranking
• Document Verification & Medical Examination: Shortlisted candidates are invited for document verification and medical fitness tests as per the prescribed post standards. Failure to produce original certificates results in disqualification
• Final Merit List: Merit is determined based on normalized marks, age (for tie-breakers), and other criteria set out in the official formula. The final empanelment is subject to verification and medical tests
